If you have not noticed, there is a multi billion dollar weight loss industry that keeps feeding people lies and unsubstatiated promises. There are organisations that sell properly researched and reviewed products and they do not promise heaven and earth for zero effort as most fads do. The fact of the matter is that the world we live in has more fat people than we used to have in the 60s, 70s or any other decade.
The reasons for people getting bigger are varied, but at the end of the day it all boils down to the amount of energy that we consume and expend (you really are what you eat). The reasons why you should maintain a healthy weight for your frame are numerous e.g. reduce the chances of getting hypertension, diabetes, cardio-vascular dieseases and general lack of energy etc. the list reads like the who is who of modern dread desease. The biggest issue with most weight loss programs is that (1) they are too difficult to follow and (2) you can not sustain the kind of effort required at your fitness level (or is that un-fitness level?!)
I am myself a former fat guy, and believe me there is a lot that can be done to improve your health over a few short weeks BUT you have to be willing to make the effort. There are products that would make this easier for you and I have personally reviewed these at my own expense and can tell you which ones work and which one are just a waste of your hard earned money. Unfortunately there is no magic pill or product that works completely on its own often you will have to combine these products to have the type of weightloss that you desire.
I must caution you about one thing though, losing too much weight too quickly often leads to rapid weight gain when you stop the diet you were on. I know there are doctors out there who will tell you that 1kg a week is the maximum you can lose safely, but doctors being who they are will always differ (second opinion anyone?). There are cases which demonstrate that you can lose up to 2.5 kg a week safely. Obviously it all depends on your body weight and the heavier you are the more you can lose per week, but generally speaking losing 2.5kg a week will not have many side effect for most people. There are special circumstances where doctors will allow you to lose more than 5 kg a week, please consult your doctor if you are unsure how much weight is safe to lose above the 2.5 kg limit. Personally I have lost more on short stints and then stabilised to safer weight loss (see below).

There are many delicious meal supplements that can help you lose weight with minimal exercise, but it is important to note that an active lifestyle is necessary to maintain good health, even if its just a daily brisk walk. The only problem with supplements is – the are expensive and for most people cannot be a life long way of life. Supplements are a good way to start on your weightloss path as many meal replacement programmes help you lose between 4 – 8 kg per month, which is pretty significant if your BMI is on the high side.
This means you need to change the way you eat – your diet. Nowadays you don’t need a dietician as there are numerous websites that have professionally prepared meal plans for FREE. From these websites you can make a shopping list and do your groceries and start a lifestyle change. I personally use one of these sites (www.sparkpeople.com) and if you like you can visit them and join - FREE (I am not getting paid for referrals).
Now for the fitness plans. It is important to have a workout program and it is important to do something that you like! If you start off jogging but it isn’t for you then you will either quit and not realise your dreams or painfully go through a process that should be FUN. YES! I said exercise should be FUN.Obviously there are routines that you have to incorporate in your programme that you might not like. Personally I like soccer and play it twice a week (we call it football in RSA), but I still go to gym for resistance exercises. So choose your sport (dance, hockey, basketball, football) and be disciplined about going to training, if you enjoy it this should be easy.
There are many fitness programmes on the internet today and be careful you do not get scammed. The one that worked for me is short but not so sweet as it involves training in intervals (short bursts). You can go to my website and preview the training plan. The eating programme that I used and I am still using is quite popular and is known as the Atkins diet and I would advise you to buy the book and change your lifestyle (There is a caution for people with certain medical conditions e.g. diabetes and kidney disease – please read the book carefully before you start). What I like about this diet is that it makes sense in terms of people who like food, there is no starvation here. In the first 2 weeks of Atkins I lost about 10 kg (close to 22 pounds). The website I gave you earlier will give you lots of recipes, but it does not come close to this eating plan.
Weighloss is not rocket science. Combine these things and be healthier and more energetic.
To great health.
Kind Regards
Siya
